Singapore National Eye Centre Pte. Ltd. is looking to hire a dedicated candidate for the position of Patient Care Assistant for their Day Ward. Key Responsibilities
The candidate will be responsible for assisting in the high-quality care of surgical patients within a Day Ward environment. Key duties include performing pre-operative assessments, preparing patients for surgery, and providing post-operative education during discharge. You will monitor vital signs, perform 12-lead electrocardiograms, peripheral blood glucose monitoring, and assist with IV cannulation and venepuncture. The role also involves portering duties, such as fetching patients from the Operating Theatre, transferring patients safely, and handling oxygen tanks. Additionally, you will support the nursing team by managing patient snacks, recording intake/output charts, and maintaining the cleanliness of patient cubicles and medical equipment.
Required Qualification
The candidate should have a minimum of GCE N, O, or A Levels, or a NITEC / Higher NITEC qualification. A recognized Certificate in Health Care (Inpatient) or a WSQ Certificate in Healthcare Support (Nursing Care) is mandatory. The candidate must be proficient in clinical procedures such as simple wound dressing, bandaging, and oral suctioning. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential to orientate patients and relatives to the ward environment and work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Experience Needed
The candidate should have at least 1 year of professional experience in Patient Care Assistant Jobs Singapore, ideally within an inpatient or day surgery setting. Experience in assisting with medical records, handling biohazard waste disposal, and performing specialized clinical tasks like removing peripheral venous cannulas is highly preferred. The candidate should be familiar with hospital risk management and infection control protocols, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Skills and Competencies
The candidate should have excellent observational skills to detect and report patient abnormalities to Registered Nurses. They must be physically capable of lifting, positioning, and transporting patients safely. Proficiency in using hospital database systems to retrieve medical records and X-rays is required. The candidate should be a reliable team player with a positive attitude, capable of acting as a buddy to guide newly recruited staff. A proactive approach to housekeeping and resource management—ensuring ward supplies are sufficient and equipment is well-maintained—is a core competency for this role.
